First grader, Lorenzo Trossarello, from Hill City Elementary surprised some of our teachers with bright yellow flowers "just because." Mrs. Smith, his first-grade teacher, Mrs. Richards, our music teacher, and Mrs. Hardison, our media specialist, all received a little sunshine to brighten their day.

Exciting News!
Congratulations to Mrs. Sonia Chapman and our incredible agriculture program! Hill City Elementary is proud to announce we are a runner-up winner of $2,000 in the "Give Back Giveaway," sponsored by Star 94 Atlanta and Delta Community Credit Union.
This award celebrates the ways we support our community and beyond. Specifically, it recognized:
1.) Our recent Hurricane Helene relief effort,
2.) Donating over 100 gallons of fresh produce to our community thanks to our school garden, and
3.) Partnering with Keep Pickens Beautiful for a composting project at school and with CARES.
We’re so proud of our students, staff, and everyone who helps make these programs successful. Together, we are making a difference!

During breakfast, Savannah Pedine, a third grader at Hill City Elementary, saw a kindergarten friend struggling with her hair bow. In a quick and simple act of kindness, she jumped up and helped perfect her hairstyle, showing that it doesn't take much to be kind.

Amazing Reading Alert!
A huge congratulations to London in Mrs. Gartrell's class for mastering ALL of the Kindergarten and First-Grade sight words! To celebrate this big achievement, London was excited to pick out a special book from our Book Vending Machine!
We are so proud of your hard work and love for reading, London!

Mrs. Hamilton's Pre-K students had a blast with a turkey-themed directed drawing activity!
Directed drawing helps build confidence in artistic expression, strengthen fine motor skills,
and gives practice following step-by-step directions.
These little artists "gobbled-up" the cues to create their very own turkeys, and the results are adorable!

More reading success to celebrate!
A big congratulations to Asher in Mrs. Roper's kindergarten class for mastering all of the Kindergarten sight words! This young reader is now taking on the first-grade sight word list—what an amazing accomplishment!

Who doesn't love a parade?!
Mrs. Roper's kindergarten class learned the history of the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade and discovered the art and science behind those giant, colorful balloons we all know and love!
They read "Balloons Over Broadway" by Melissa Sweet, watched how the iconic balloons are created, and even put on their own Thanksgiving Day Parade!
Check out their excitement as they bring this beloved tradition to life in the hallways of Hill City!

Congratulations to Nate Neighbors!
Mrs. Romesberg is "passing the Hawk" to Nate, sharing:
"This person magically appears to fix our Promethean boards immediately after receiving the request. He also helps anytime there is a 'Tech' emergency without pointing out it's a 'user' error (LOL!). He volunteers to train our tech leaders for our classroom and does all this with a smile. He's involved with our students and very helpful to the staff!"
Let's hear it for "Nate the Great" on receiving the HAWK!

"Brrrilliant" Timing!
It seems fitting that our PTO gifted Deputy Roach a "Brrr Box" on this first chilly morning of the season! Thank you, PTO, for helping warm up his day and keeping our favorite deputy cozy.

Kindergarten Wins the Turkey Feather Contest!
Congratulations to our kindergarten team, who rocked their turkey hats with pride! A special shout-out to Mrs. Roper's class for collecting the most money in the PTO fundraiser and earning the title of "Biggest Turkey!"
Thank you to everyone who participated and contributed to this fun and successful event.

Students in Mrs. Connelly's fourth-grade ELA class dove into an article to practice distinguishing between important and unimportant information, building their knowledge about state government. They also visited the media center, where Mrs. Hardison introduced the Pickens County Page-Turners Society. She shared details about the upcoming reading competition, giving students an opportunity to showcase their love of books.

Congratulations, Benji and MarLeigh! These two kindergartners in Mrs. Abbott's class have mastered their kindergarten sight words and are now tackling the first-grade sight word list like champions! To celebrate their achievement, they each got to choose a book from the Book Vending Machine!
Way to go, Benji and MarLeigh!

"I'm going to huff and puff and blow your house down!" Oh, no you're not!
Mrs. Anderson's Pre-K students stepped into the role of engineers as they designed strong houses for their little piggies. Using materials like blocks, straws, paper, magnetic tiles, pipe cleaners, and tape, they worked hard to build structures sturdy enough to withstand the Big Bad Wolf's "huffing and puffing!" Their goal? Keep those 3 little pigs safe!
