We’re gonna rock, gonna rock around the clock… it was the 50th Day of School yesterday!
Mrs. Roper’s kindergartners were jumpin’ and jivin’ at their sock hop celebration! They loved their root beer floats and dancing!

What’s a root beer float?
So many of our Hawks had never tried one before! Mrs. Shealey’s first graders got a taste of this classic 1950s soda fountain treat—and based on all those big smiles, it was definitely a hit!

Hawks had a rockin’ good time celebrating the 50th day of school yesterday!
Blue jeans, white T-shirts, leather jackets, and "Pink Ladies" filled the halls as we cruised back to the fabulous ’50s! Students enjoyed delicious root beer floats (or a fun variation!) and danced the day away to some sock-hoppin’ tunes.

Yesterday was SO much fun!
The 50th Day of School and Fire Safety Day made it a marvelous one in Mrs. Dilbeck’s kindergarten class! From hula-hooping in poodle skirts and blue jeans to exploring a real fire truck — what could be better?
A big thank-you to the City of Jasper Fire Department for visiting our school and keeping our little Hawks safe and smiling!

Red Ribbon Week is in two weeks, October 27th - 31st! For those who want to plan ahead, here's the week's theme for dress-up.

Fire Safety Fun in Kindergarten!
City of Jasper firefighter Mr. Teems visited our kindergarten classes today! The students had a wonderful time meeting the firefighters, exploring the fire engine, and learning all about the important tools they use to keep our community safe.
A big thank you to all our community heroes who work hard every day to keep us safe! Thank you for visiting us during Fire Prevention Week.

Way to go, Hill City! For the second month in a row, we’ve earned the county’s “Best Staff Attendance” award! Thank you to our amazing faculty and staff for showing up each day for our students! Your consistency and care make all the difference!

Mrs. Anderson's PreK students had a "gourd" time measuring! Their special measuring tools? Pumpkins! They even measured Mr. Billy — what fun learning in action!

Thank you to the Pickens County Retired Educators for thinking about our faculty and staff. You know from experience that a salty or sweet snack is a necessary "pick-me-up" following a full moon -- especially a Harvest supermoon! We appreciate your thoughtfulness.

Students in Mrs. Connelly's 4th grade ELA class have been busy! They have been writing an opinion essay on why elementary students should NOT have cell phones, enjoying popsicles for reaching an attendance goal, and using technology to present virtual learning day projects! Fourth grade moves fast but we have fun!

Congratulations to these amazing readers!
Many of our 3rd and 4th graders met or exceeded their reading minutes goal for Unit #2 in ELA — and earned a special trip to the Book Vending Machine! Keep up the great work and keep reading, leaders!

Thank you to Chick-fil-A Jasper for the delicious biscuit breakfast for our faculty and staff! It was a great treat right before we begin Fall Break. We are delighted to have you as a new community partner! #PositivePickens

Thank you to Amicalola EMC for their Bright Idea Grants!
Mrs. Green was awarded $1,000 for her "Think, Build, Code" project, which will provide robotics kits for her gifted classroom, and Mrs. Hardison received funds for "Team 3D" to integrate 3D design and printing into STEM-based projects.
We are so thankful for Amicalola EMC — a generous community partner who continues to support innovation and learning in our schools!

Mrs. Childers' 3rd graders have their detective hats on! They’re zooming in, searching high and low to spot similes hiding in their reading. They’re learning that figurative language makes writing sparkle and shine—just like them!

Smencils will be for sale in the lobby tomorrow! These Halloween-themed scented pencils are boo-rific!

Thank you to our amazing custodians!
While we’re grateful for these hardworking ladies every single day, we took extra time on Custodian Appreciation Day (October 2nd) to celebrate them! We appreciate all you do to help HCES shine!

These leaders give a hoot about their future! They’re successfully practicing Habit #2: Begin With the End in Mind as part of our "Leader in Me" program. Congratulations to our raffle drawing winners — your hard work is paying off!

Mrs. Romesberg’s second graders had a poppin’ good time during science! They explored the properties of matter by observing popcorn kernels before and after heating — discovering how matter changes state.
