Jump and Learn! We were excited to introduce our PreK, kindergarten, and first-grade Hawks to the new Active Floor in the media center. The fun was contagious as they jumped, moved, and worked together. What a great way to combine learning and play! Even Deputy Roach had to check it out! Here are Ms. Sultan's and Mrs. Smith's first graders using their feet and showing what they know!

Thank You, PACA!
A big shoutout to the Pickens Arts & Cultural Alliance for awarding Hill City Elementary a $500 grant! This generous support will help make our annual Fine Arts Night this spring even more special.
We can’t wait to showcase our Hawks' incredible artwork, poetry, and musical talents. Your commitment to fostering the arts in our community means the world to us!

Congratualations, Mrs. Sonia Chapman, on receiving the Hawk! Mr. Nate honored her with the Hawk saying, "She shows our future generations how we should treat the planet and all of its living creatures. She goes above and beyond .... I feel proud to give the Hawk to someone who I truly believe embodies the spirit of Hill City Elementary. " Hooray for Mrs. Chapman!

Congratulations, Madison!
She's mastered the kindergarten sight words and earned a well-deserved trip to the Book Vending Machine! Now, onto the challenge of first-grade sight words. Keep up the fantastic reading, Madison!

News from PTO for December!

Thank you to our Sequoyah Chapter of the National Daughters of the American Revolution for the book donation to our media center. "We Fought For Freedom: The Story of Our American Revolution" by Tara Ross is a wonderful patriotic picture book that beautifully introduces our students to our nation’s rich historical heritage as our country fought for freedom from Great Britain.

Congratulations to this week's Perseverance Award winners!
These students are shining examples of sticking with it, even when the going gets tough. We are so proud of your determination. Keep up the amazing work!

Mrs. Shealey's class is polishing their reading skills! After reading a story from their Benchmark booklet, the students worked in groups to identify the beginning, middle, and end of the story. Then, they showcased their understanding by presenting to the class!

First grader, Lorenzo Trossarello, from Hill City Elementary surprised some of our teachers with bright yellow flowers "just because." Mrs. Smith, his first-grade teacher, Mrs. Richards, our music teacher, and Mrs. Hardison, our media specialist, all received a little sunshine to brighten their day.

Exciting News!
Congratulations to Mrs. Sonia Chapman and our incredible agriculture program! Hill City Elementary is proud to announce we are a runner-up winner of $2,000 in the "Give Back Giveaway," sponsored by Star 94 Atlanta and Delta Community Credit Union.
This award celebrates the ways we support our community and beyond. Specifically, it recognized:
1.) Our recent Hurricane Helene relief effort,
2.) Donating over 100 gallons of fresh produce to our community thanks to our school garden, and
3.) Partnering with Keep Pickens Beautiful for a composting project at school and with CARES.
We’re so proud of our students, staff, and everyone who helps make these programs successful. Together, we are making a difference!

During breakfast, Savannah Pedine, a third grader at Hill City Elementary, saw a kindergarten friend struggling with her hair bow. In a quick and simple act of kindness, she jumped up and helped perfect her hairstyle, showing that it doesn't take much to be kind.

We Are Thankful!
A big THANK YOU to everyone who joined us yesterday for our annual Thanksgiving Lunch! Seeing so many families and friends come together to share a meal with our students was heartwarming.
We are especially grateful to the many helping hands who made this event such a wonderful success. Your support and teamwork truly made the day extra special.
Enjoy your break next week and Happy Thanksgiving from all of us at Hill City Elementary!

Wow, What a Team!
A huge shout-out to Mrs. Smith and our incredible 4th-grade leaders on Safety Patrol, Kindness Crew, and Afternoon Flag Crew for their hard work yesterday!
Thanks to their dedication and teamwork, over 1,000 students, staff, and visitors enjoyed a delicious Thanksgiving meal. Your leadership and service made the day run smoothly!

Amazing Reading Alert!
A huge congratulations to London in Mrs. Gartrell's class for mastering ALL of the Kindergarten and First-Grade sight words! To celebrate this big achievement, London was excited to pick out a special book from our Book Vending Machine!
We are so proud of your hard work and love for reading, London!

Mrs. Hamilton's Pre-K students had a blast with a turkey-themed directed drawing activity!
Directed drawing helps build confidence in artistic expression, strengthen fine motor skills,
and gives practice following step-by-step directions.
These little artists "gobbled-up" the cues to create their very own turkeys, and the results are adorable!

More reading success to celebrate!
A big congratulations to Asher in Mrs. Roper's kindergarten class for mastering all of the Kindergarten sight words! This young reader is now taking on the first-grade sight word list—what an amazing accomplishment!

Who doesn't love a parade?!
Mrs. Roper's kindergarten class learned the history of the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade and discovered the art and science behind those giant, colorful balloons we all know and love!
They read "Balloons Over Broadway" by Melissa Sweet, watched how the iconic balloons are created, and even put on their own Thanksgiving Day Parade!
Check out their excitement as they bring this beloved tradition to life in the hallways of Hill City!
