Fresh from the garden!
Thanks to the Hill City garden, fresh okra is now available in the food pantry at the front of the school. Students in Mrs. Chapman’s Ag class worked hard to sort and bag the harvest for our community. Stop by and pick up a bag to enjoy with your family!

Will this sweet treat dissolve? Mrs. Gilleland’s third graders put their curiosity to the test! They investigated whether Peeps would break apart when placed in different liquids—water, vinegar, and soda.

Congratulations, Mrs. Dittmer!
Our next Hawk recipient joined the Hill last year and hit the ground running with getting to know our students and how to best serve them. Kim Mason, who passed the Hawk to Mrs. Dittmer, said, "She is always looking for new ways to connect with the kids based on their interests so that they are learning in ways that keep them engaged. She greets every child with a warm and inviting welcome that makes them feel loved and cared for. No matter how busy or challenging the day is, she always has a smile and a good attitude!"

Center time is happy time in PreK! Mrs. Everett's class is all smiles as they explore the new centers.

Creative Construction! Inspired by "If I Built a House" by Chris Van Dusen, students in the Computer/STEM Lab took on a big teamwork challenge. Using the giant Big Blue Blocks, they worked together to design and build a free-standing housel—complete with at least one room and an entrance!

"Leader in Me" in action! Mrs. Gartrell’s kindergartners are putting Habit #6—Synergize—into practice! Their mission: to work together to build one tall, free-standing tower.

Reserve your yearbook early to hold on to every incredible memory of the school year! Yearbooks are currently $33 if you order by 8/22/2025. Order online at Jostens.com or send a check (payable to Jostens), or cash.

Mrs. Culbreth’s third grade class recently put the scientific method to work —making predictions, observing closely, and recording results as they soaked M&Ms in water. The outcome? A colorful explosion of curiosity and learning!

A joyful glimpse into PreK center time in Mrs. Anderson's class! Look at those big smiles as our youngest learners explore, create, and discover during centers!

"Leader in Me" in Action!
Mrs. Shealey’s class has been practicing great listening skills and raising their hands for questions as part of the “Leader in Me” habits. Other routines matter too — Check out her first graders learning how to use their word work trays!

HCES students are already working hard in Art!
Our current project can be created with a partner or individually. A random word is chosen from a container. They have to think of another word that rhymes with the first. Pictures include the rhyming set. For example: Tall/ Ball, Bear/ Hair, etc...
It has been fun seeing them use their literary skills and imaginations!
