Jennie Smith - School Counselor

DEAR HAWK PARENTS/GUARDIANS:

Thank you for allowing the HCES team to educate and care for your child this academic year. My name is Jennie H. Smith. I have been a School Counselor in Pickens County for 21 years---18 at Jasper Primary/Elementary TIGER...1 year at the New Jasper Middle...and now I am spreading my wings as a HILL CITY HAWK!!

I received my Bachelor's in Mass Communications in 1997 from Auburn University. While in college, I worked as a camp counselor and academic tutor; there I learned that I enjoyed helping and guiding younger students. I then worked as a long-term substitute at my elementary alma mater and decided to continue my education.  In 2000, I received my Master's in School Counseling and moved to Jasper to begin work at Jasper Primary School.  In 2003, I received my Specialist degree/Ed.S in Curriculum and Instruction.

I have been married to my husband and best friend, Brent, for 13 years. We are parents to two fur-babies--Georgia & Peach. I enjoy singing, acting, crafting, and supporting each student in becoming his/her BEST SELF!  I have been a Wizard Of Oz fan since I was 3 years old and believe that the story and characters have real-life application; therefore, if you walk by my office, you will see the WOZ decor!

I am excited to be working with your child and helping him/her learn to love themselves! I would like to welcome you and your child to the HCES Counseling Department. I believe that many things in life are not within human control, yet ALL HUMANS can make choices about their words, actions, and attitudes...These choices can make or break HOPE for the future! We ALL have a LIGHT TO SHINE to the world!

Growing-up is tough and presents many challenges--emotionally & socially-- which directly impact academic achievement. My goal is to assist your child in reaching his/her potential as a person, student, and citizen in his/her social, emotional, and academic growth. It is my privilege to provide:

-an honest voice of reason in times of confusion

-a shoulder to cry on during struggles

-direction and suggestions for resolving problems and/or correcting poor choices

-resources to assist with physical and emotional needs

It is my pleasure to work with you and your child, so that together we can help him/her have an AWESOME ADVENTURE of personal, social, emotional, and academic GROWTH at Hill City Elementary!
